Here comes the Sun! Summer Skin Care Tips
Sunshine, heat, humidity and Chlorine can all play havoc with your skin. Keep these summer skin care tips in mind to protect your face and body while looking your sun-kissed best.
Sunscreen, Sunscreen, Sunscreen: Choose products that provide broad spectrum protection, which block both ultraviolet A (UVA) and ultraviolet B (UVB) rays. Apply sunscreen liberally before you go outside; reapply every two hours and always after swimming. And don’t let those clouds fool you – apply sunscreen everyday! Not only can you burn from the sun’s rays, it can also increase your chances of developing wrinkles, age spots – or even worse- skin cancer.
Don’t skip the moisturiser: Your skin may be less dry during the summer months but don’t banish your moisturiser as chlorine, heat and humidity can all dry out the skin. Instead switch to a lighter, water-based formula for both face and body, and swap your eye cream for a lighter serum.
Fake it: Minimise your chances of wrinkles, age spots and skin cancer by skipping the suntan altogether and opting for a sunless self tanner such as Image Face and Body Bronzing Creme, which gives a gradual, even golden glow.
Exfoliate regularly: Sun, sand, sweat and sunscreen increase the amount of dead skin cells that build up on your face and body. Slough them off with an exfoliating scrub a few times each week. Exfoliating will also help your self tanner go on more evenly and prevent streaking.
Beware of sun sensitivity: If you are taking prescription medicine, ensure that you check the labels to see if they affect your bodys reaction to the sun and heat, or ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water or fluids during the summer so that the body remains hydrated and healthy. Eating water- filled foods like watermelon, is an easy and refreshing way to keep hydrated.
Colourful fruits: Have plenty of colourful fruits as they are powerful antioxidants and fight the free radicals caused due to the sun. They are also rich in Vitamin C which helps prevent pigmentation.
Sip some red wine: Resveratol, a naturally occuring phenol found in the skin of red grapes, has an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effect so can be good for redness and acute sunburn. Who needs any other excuse!
Don’t forget your hands: The thin skin on your hands wrinkles and pigments easily so include them in your routine when applying sun block. The Image rejuvenating hand creme both hydrates and protects the skin, and goes on sheer so won’t leave any heavy residue or white streaks.
Use these tips for skin care in the summer and you’ll have the best looking- and healthiest- skin on the beach!
